Top 10 PS3 Games…so far.

IGN.com is a great site and have made numerous “top ____ lists” but recently they had their top PS3 editors get together to create the ultimate PS3 games list.  I thought this was a great list that I wanted to share with our readers at SonyRumors (they made a top 25 list but I will share their top 10). This inspired me to make my own top 10 list of my favorite PS3 games so far. I say that because for the rest of 2010 there’s a bunch of new games coming out, some of which I’m sure will replace games on my list right now. So here you go; my top 10 followed by IGN’s. I would love to see what games would make your list. Share and comment away.

10. Warhawk

9. Pixel Junk Monsters

8. God of War III

7. Uncharted

6. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

5. LittleBigPlanet

4. Batman Arkham Asylum

3. Modern Warfare 2

2. Modern Warfare

1. Uncharted 2

I just want to talk a little bit about my number 2 and 3 choices. I know both games are ‘similar’ in the type and in the same series but they are my favorite to play on PS3. Uncharted 2 became number one for the unique and action-packed story which I will explain further down.  I must admit though, I’m in love with the Modern Warfare franchise and what it did for FPS games. Modern Warfare 2 is the second top selling game of all time. The story mode is amazing, realistic and challenging. As for the online gameplay…I’m hooked. I think it’s so entertaining, intense and just the best, especially when I’m online with friends dominating matches. To those not a fan of the games, I bet I sound lame but that’s all I have to say about that. I have yet to find another FPS game that keeps my attention and interest like MW; I always come back to it.

Now moving on to IGN’s top 10 list, with a little bit about each game. Some of these made my top 10 list, but I wish Star Wars was on here.

IGN’s top 1o:

#10 – God of War 3

Kratos returned this year in the final chapter of the series to defeat Zeus and the Olympian Gods for revenge. This highly anticipated game for PS3 received incredibly high ratings and reviews as did the others in the series. I would say GoW is one of the most loved and popular franchises of Playstation. I own the complete collection of GoW and can say the graphics on GoW 3 are phenomenal with challenging puzzles and great gameplay. We are also reintroduced to Pandora’s Box in the third game and it’s pretty wicked cool. I also really enjoyed the ending where….don’t worry, no spoilers. 🙂

#9 – Metal Gear Solid 4

I have only heard amazing things from the Metal Gear Solid franchise.  I admit I have not played any of these games because I’m just not a fan of the stealthy gameplay. Clements from IGN said this about the game, “The Metal Gear Solid games were exceptional efforts that blended stealth gameplay with a gripping story. Action, intrigue, amazing boss battles and more — Guns of the Patriots had it all. And the amount of collectibles and customization included in MGS4 were the figurative cherries on top.”

If you like what you see please continue on for the rest of the best.

#8 Grand Theft Auto IV

I remember playing the first Grand Theft Auto on the PC when the view was looking straight down into the city an characters popped up for dialogue. The franchise has come a long way since then. This game excelled in more ways than anyone could imagine and is probably the best of the series so far. Greg said, “This open world was more alive than most with its comedy clubs, bars, strip clubs and so on; toss in a complex relationship network; toss in dozens of missions; and toss in a choice at the end of the game that made most of think twice about what we should do.  It set the bar very, very high for every game to come.”

#7 Batman Arkham Asylum

So much can be said of this amazing game. I’m a huge DC comics fan and Batman has always been my favorite superhero. I was super excited when I first read about this game but most superhero games don’t turn out to be the best. Impressive graphics was one of the first things that struck me about this game. We were put into an adult, dark world of Batman that included decades of history of the caped crusader. The story was very compelling, the gameplay was so much fun especially playing in detective mode. You also have tons of gadgets, a unique fighting mechanism and many times must be stealthy. Another awesome element to the game is the Riddler. He asks tons of riddles for you to solve and hides Riddler trophies to find (over 200 total); this adds a whole new challenge to the game. I absolutely can’t wait for the sequel coming Fall 2011.

#6 Killzone 2

The first game was a moderate hit on the PS2 but when the second Killzone arrived on the PS3, it became a huge hit and is now considered one of the best FPS games period. Colin from IGN said, “It’s true that Killzone 2 is also considered one of the PlayStation 3’s prettiest games, but that’s beside the point when considering what matters most — its gameplay. Killzone 2’s controls are smooth and responsive, its shooting mechanics fluid, and its story, setting and characters compelling. No wonder its sequel, Killzone 3, is one of PlayStation 3’s most-anticipated upcoming titles.”  Killzone 3 is set to be released 2011 and will be compatible with The Playstation Move and be released in 3D.  They had Killzone 3 in 3D at E3 (hah) available to play but the line was about 2 hours long so I had to pass on it with the short time I was there.

#5 inFamous

We were introduced to Cole in Spring 2009.  He is a messenger-turned-superhero and you make choices in the game that leads you to be a good superhero or be bad and turn on the civilians in the city. I recently bought this game but I haven’t had a chance to start it yet (sad face). I do know Sohrab loves this game; read his Gamers Log about it here. inFamous  to Colin, “The game’s sharp attention to fluid gameplay made it a breeze to play, while your ability to make real and lasting choices as you progressed through the story gave you reason to come back for seconds.”  I know I have to play and beat this game before inFamous 2 is released next year.

#4 LittleBigPlanet

Play. Create. Share. Three simple words that made one heck of a game. LittleBigPlanet is one of my favorite PS3 exclusive games. The customization on the game is just about infinite. From the 100s of costumes you can mix and match to the levels you create and share for others to play through with whatever theme you want. LittleBigPlanet also introduced us to one of gamings cutest and most lovable mascot, Sackboy. This game showed people that just about anything is possible.

#3 Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar brought us Grand Theft Auto, now the sandbox gameplay kicks in the dirt to the ol’ west. You play as John Marston, a reformed outlaw that does one last job to gather and turn in his former brothers of his gang. I’ve played both the story and online mode and enjoyed the story better. To me, the online gameplay was a tad slow but the story was great and really makes you feel like you are in the west. It’s great riding a carriage full of dynamite and detonating it on the gates of a town before jumping off. Greg said, “You could ride into the distance and see strangers in need of help, watch the sun set, or even leave people tied up on the railroad tracks. Red Dead was a classic western in videogame form.”

#2 Fallout 3

I haven’t played one second of this game, so I’ll have Greg from IGN say it all:  “It’s a simple concept that could be told in a number of genres – your father has set off on a mission, and you have to find him – but Bethesda decided that a massive roleplaying game set in a post-apocalyptic landscape was the place to set Fallout 3. We’re happy that the developers did. The title won IGN’s Game of the Year Award in 2008, and after playing for a bit, it should be easy to see why. There are dozens of side quests, a customization system that ensures no main character is exactly the same, and so much content that we’re still playing it today.”

#1 Uncharted 2

Both my list and theirs has Uncharted 2 as Sony’s best PS3 game ever. When Uncharted was released on the PS3 I was in awe. The graphics were the best I’ve seen with a great story. Nathan Drake was charming, funny and a badass. Well, Uncharted 2 came out November 2009 and blew it out of the water. The gameplay fellt like an action movie blockbuster with amazing graphics and great cinematography. It was so above and beyond anything I have ever played.  There’s romance, plenty of action and great twists in the story. The single player mode is intense from the minute you start with Drake bleeding to death on a destroyed train. Uncharted 2 also added an online multiplayer mode with co-op missions and competitive matches with a community still going strong today.

Well that’s all folks, again, please send in your top 10 lists. I’d love to see what you play.
