When it comes to articles, I have to say that as much of a computer geek that I am, with 4 computers in my room alone, I hate writing about laptops. There is too many series with different processors and specs to try to make a smooth and cohesive sounding sentence without it just being a list of specs but I’ll give it a shot! During CES, though Sony had many new updates to its current Vaio lineup with the usual slight spec bumps, the main story was the Vaio Y and S series laptops, with the former packing in the newly announced AMD Fusion APU.
Starting with Sony’s entry level laptops, the YB Vaio is a 11.6-inch, 3.2-pound laptop which will now sport the AMD’s Brazos E350 APU. The key differences between the new AMD units versus Intel Core 2 Duo and Core Duo units is that AMD promises much better battery life with some solid graphics while Intel has been extremely lacking in the video department. The series will come with Windows 7 Home Premium, 320GB or 500GB hard drives, and 4GB of RAM with $549 getting you the 320GB hard drive and 2GB of Ram.
Next up is the Vaio YA series with Intel processors inside. This $750 laptop will bump you up to a Intel i5 processor . And what about the Vaio S? This 13.3 inch ultraportable Vaio comes housed in standard durable magnesium casing with a i3 processor inside with a standard 5 hour battery and available 7.5 battery pack. Look for both series to be available at stores now with a near $900 price tag for the Vaio S. Oh, and HDMI out will be standard on both the Vaio Y and S series.
