2010 was a year of tremendous growth for our site. Not only did we have a record year with our readership exploding, but we also had a record number of posts, totaling at 469. Still, a site like this would be nothing without our readers and I’m a firm believer of a two-way conversation. After all, this website is meant to be a community for Sony fans and 2010 gave you a number of ways to interact with us. Besides the comment section that follows every story, we also have a Facebook page and Twitter feed in order to interact with you guys and give you the latest news.
2011 is the year that we beef up our media offerings. This started with our Flickr feed which not only allows us to provide you with more photos, but also better quality photos of Sony-related events that we cover. Of course, the evolution of pictures has always been video and that’s exactly where we looked next. YouTube has been our current focus; we are now offering you multiple video reviews and guides to different Sony products. YouTube also gives us a great platform to be more than just words, instead allowing us to be more personal and at times more in depth with our reporting. This is because, as great as a description is, sometimes seeing is believing, and YouTube gives us that. Part of this has also been insisting on offering all of our videos in HD. I’m a firm believer in this initiative and let’s be honest, who wants to see a low-lit, fuzzy video? As our site grows, we hope to offer even more video reviews and previews, especially at upcoming events such as E3 2011 and ComicCon 2011. We can’t think of media without thinking of audio and that’s exactly what our newest offering is. Podcasting has been underway since early Fall of 2010. Going forward with the same philosophy as our YouTube channel, I didn’t want our podcast to be just another voice out there. Just as I had spent time building our YouTube intro music, graphics and pipeline, I want our Podcast to stand on its own as well, yet complement, tie-in and elevate our Sony community. After spending nearly half a year in the shadows, our music pieces are set, our graphics are ready and a show outline has been set. This of course doesn’t mean that there won’t be additional enhancement to our podcast, as we are always tweaking all of our feeds. Instead, we now have a structure that works, is robust, and will give us a foundation to grow on.
The SonyRumors podcast is a free subscription that can be found on iTunes and accessed from any Mac, PC or iOS device. With two Beta episodes and one full episode recorded last night, we hope to update our feed every Sunday night. The focus of the podcast is of course Sony and we look to wrap up everything that’s happened in the Sony community during that week. Besides going over the week’s news, we hope to offer you product reviews and special guests. Just like our videos, every episode will finish with a listener feedback segment where we answer your Facebook, Twitter, email and phone call questions. That’s right, our site now has a phone number as well. Call (661) 750-BLOG any time of the day and leave us a voicemail. Then, during our podcast or video segment, we will play back your call and give you a response. The podcast will also be a rich AAC format based offering, with links and pictures built into every stream to enhance the experience for you. This will be perfect for Sony fans who either just enjoy listening in, or have long commutes and want to keep up with the latest Sony news.
As you can see, 2011 is seeing a big media focused initiative for our site and we hope that you join us for this journey, because your feedback makes all the difference. Feel free to subscribe to our YouTube channel and podcast feed. Also, make sure to friend us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. If you think our family is a compelling place to be, why don’t you contact us for an internship?
