After DC Universe Online’s successful transition into the world of free-to-play MMO’s, it looks like Sony Online Entertainment is taking another one of it’s most valued – and long running – franchises and making it free for everyone to play.
According to SOE, EverQuest II, their long standing (Seven Years!) fantasy-themed MMORPG is finally going free-to-play this December to coincide with the release of it’s latest expansion pack, aptly named Age of Discovery.
Following on DCUO’s footsteps, EverQuest II will have three separate membership classes:
- The Free-To-Play Class – standard EverQuest II gameplay with a number of limitations
- The Silver Class – Includes the standard EverQuest II gameplay as well as removes the limitations of the free-to-play class.
- Gold Service Class – Monthly subscription-based services that add premium options and gameplay additions to the core game and character classes.
