The Technical Image Press Association or TIPA as its known, is a European based photography and imaging advocacy group, established in 1991. The group which holds a prestigious award ceremony every other year at Photokina has just award Sony, giving the company a total of three wins. Leading the pack was the Sony Alpha A65 which won ‘Best DSLR Advanced’, making the world’s first OLED OVF camera to win such an award.
“This impressive viewing experience (2359k dots) represents a breakthrough in ultra-high resolution clarity.”
TIPA also recognized the A65’s 24.3 MP sensor, 10fps at full resolution, thanks to the cameras Translucent Mirror Technology, and 25p and smooth 50p capability, all at Full HD resolution.
Next up was Sony’s highly awarded NEX-7 which also offers a 24 MP sensor and 10fps full resolution shooting with 1080p recording. Awarded the ‘Best CSC Expert’, the NEX-7 is seen as a compact system camera that “provides the same quality as an expert reflex camera.” The judges went on to say that the NEX-7 has
“the same 24 MP sensor as the SLT-A77 expert reflex while retaining compact size and offering a convenient, OLED-type EVF articulating monitor. Its elegant design, complemented by metal construction, sets it apart from other models. Offering numerous special effects modes, such as Sweep Panorama and Auto HDR, the camera can capture up to 10 frames per second, plus offers numerous HD movie options.”
Of course, no digital camera is complete without some sort of memory card and Sony’s newer, XQD card landed the ‘Best Imaging Storage Media’ award. The judges sighted the cards ability to meet the “demanding needs of today’s pro still and DSLR videographers.” With an ability to read/write speeds of up to 125 MB per second, the XQD is also used by other manufactures like Nikon. The award giving panel also highlighted the card’s
“rugged construction and inset pins as well as the PCIe interface and controller that outperforms any conventional CompactFlash card.”
With an award winning line of cameras, lets hope that Sony is able to push the message to the consumer who make up a majority of camera sales and not limit their sales to readers of site like ours and the professional crowd.
