Oh FCC, how you can ruin many great surprises for companies. Last week, we told you about a leaked video and promotional photo of what appears to be a Sony VAIO Duo 13-inch, the hybrid Windows 8 laptop and slate. Sony already sells the VAIO Duo 11-inch so this latest model seems to offer what we’ve already come to expect from the series with an extra 2 inches of real estate space on your screen. Now, the FCC has all but confirmed the validity of the VAIO Duo 13-inch and a product through their doors means a very high likelihood of a release in the US, and soon.
Given the model number SVD132A14L, the PC in question offers some things we expected and somethings we didn’t like
- Dual-band WiFi in a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth (regular and low energy)
- NFC
While the first two features are also available and standard on the current 11-inch model, the inclusion of NFC is a new thing for the series. Just recently, Sony announced the SBH50, their latest premium Bluetooth headset with NFC. Seeing how the FCC isn’t in the business of tech specs and only cares about wireless capabilities, not a whole lot more was revealed by them. It is however believed that the VAIO Duo 13-inch specs will include:
- Intel Core i5 processor
- 4GB RAM
- 128GB SSD
- 8-megapixel camera with Exmor RS sensor
- backlit keyboard
- ClearAudio+
- ActiveSleep tech
With approval from the FCC, an announcement should be imminent as Sony continues to refresh its laptop line for back to school sales which begin in mid summer.
