From the time the first Uncharted title was released for the PlayStation 3, Sony Pictures has been wanting to get a movie going, based on the now extremely popular franchise. This should come as little surprise as the series developed by Naughty Dog has been a hit with fans and critics. In fact, one of the most enduring facts about the franchise has been its blockbuster movie-like experience that comes so natural to the series. While other games are at times a much harder transition to the big screen, Uncharted is rooted in a cinematic world with a modern twist on Indiana Jones. Now, nearly 7 years after the first title, Sony Pictures is no closer to getting a film going, despite previous having big names attached to the project like director David O. Russell and Mark Wahlberg who would eventually be replaced by Limitless director Neil Burger. With both directors off the project, Naughty Dog has turned their attention towards Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to help get the project going.
Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg are best known for their comedic writing. Rogan is, of course, known for his many film roles like Pineapple Express and Superbad while Goldberg has written many of the hits the duo have worked on like This Is The End and The Green Hornet, in addition to the previously mentioned films. The duo also wrote for the Ali G. Show and wrote/directed This Is The End.
In speaking with IGN, the pair revealed that Naughty Dog has repeatedly asked them to to write the Uncharted film. Seth Rogan:
They’re constantly asking me and Evan to make the Uncharted movie
While at first they might come off as an odd choice, both Rogan and Evan are big PlayStation fans and a majority of their films are made at Sony Pictures. In fact, in This Is The End, Rogan and Jay Baruchel can be found powering up a PS3 and playing Killzone 3.
Both stars have even professed their love for the franchise which is the reason why they’ve continued to turn down the gig from Naughty Dog. Goldberg explained:
It’s just going to be Indiana Jones. If we could figure out a way to make it not Indiana Jones, it’d be awesome.
And that seems to be the sticking point for them. While they are both interested, it seems that they’ve yet to be able to crack a narrative that isn’t Indiana Jones. In addition to O. Russell and Burger, National Treasure writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley were brought on to do rewrites last year. Since little has been announced from the time the duo were brought on board, it’s safe to assume that they had little luck as well with the project.
Still, it’s promising to see Sony Pictures handle the series with the respect it deserves and that the company is not trying to get some extra cash out of fans by delivering a movie that isn’t worthy of the name Uncharted.

Do you think Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg would be a good team to pen the Uncharted movie?
