There’s one thing on the mind of every PlayStation gamer this fall: when will the PlayStation 4 be coming out? When the console was announced in February, we were told Holiday 2013. At E3 in June, no further information was given — still set for Holiday 2013. Meanwhile, Microsoft announced at E3 that the Xbox One will be coming out (at least in the United States) in November. With gamescom and PAX and a number of other events on the horizon, the question of what the PS4’s launch date will be has become one on a lot of peoples’ minds, so of course people are checking local and online retailers for any glimmer or sign of a possible launch window.
This weekend, it seemed as though the folks at Toys ‘R Us in the United Kingdom would be the ones to let slip the most anticipated dates in gaming. IGN — among others, including UK site NowGamer and Britain’s Telegraph newspaper — picked up on a report from BT Games, which had reportedly confirmed that the Xbox One would be set to release on November 29, while the PlayStation 4 would launch two weeks later on December 13. The Xbox date still gets it into stores in the month of November–albeit only just slightly–while the mid-December PS4 release date would still fall in the Holiday window previously announced.
However, BT revised their article today after further contact with Toys ‘R Us, Sony, and Microsoft representatives. According to their updated information, Toy ‘R Us stated that “[t]he release dates are not provided by either Microsoft or Sony, but are an estimated date and are required by our system to allow us to take pre-orders.” Sony’s representative responded by saying “we haven’t made any announcements other than coming this holiday season” while Microsoft added that they “announced that Xbox One will launch this November, but have not shared any further details. ”
There is still no official word from either company on when the next generation of hardware will be launching in the United States, or other parts of the world, but stories like this will only provide more fuel to the fire as we draw closer to the end of 2013. When the PS4 release date is announced, you can be sure that SonyRumors will have the latest details.

When do you think the PS4 will be released? Will it come out before Xbox One?
