Sony to Announce Two New Full Frame E-mount Cameras This Month?

As soon as Sony brought the NEX  E-mount cameras to market, rumors began to circulate that the company would eventually follow up with a full frame version. With Sony having entered the mirrorless camera market long before its many competitors, it seemed obvious that the Japanese giant saw this new category as the future of cameras. Since then, Sony has gone to expand the NEX series with the 3,5,6, and 7 line. Many believe that when a full frame E-mount camera is announced from Sony, that it will bear the NEX-9 name. Now, new reports indicate an immediate release from Sony but not as an NEX-9.

According to SonyAlphaRumors, Sony will be announcing two new full frame E-mount cameras in October. While details remain light, it’s thought that Sony will use a two price strategy with the full frame cameras with one commanding a higher price and likely features than the other. This will help Sony offer a fully featured full frame camera for the professionals while offering something with fewer bells and whistles for the pro-consumer market. Both models are expected to include a fixed EVF.

It’s also believed that Sony will not market these as the NEX-9 as they will feature substantially different design language in order to accommodate the full  frame camera sensor. Whatever is in store for us, with a likely October announcement, we won’t have to wait long to hear more definitive news.

It’s worth noting that the above image is from the NEX-5.
