This morning on the PlayStation Blog, Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the rumors and our worst fears: #DRIVECLUB has been delayed until 2014, and will no longer be a PlayStation 4 launch title. According to Yoshida, “the team [at Evolution Studios] requires more time in order to deliver on their vision” though he remains confident that “the game will surpass your expectations.”
Sony Worldwide Studios’ President did confirm that DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition will still be coming to members of the subscription service upon the game’s release, but there’s no word on when exactly that will be other than “early 2014.” Yoshida did go on to detail what, in addition to Housemarque’s Resogun, PlayStation Plus members will be receiving on Day One following DriveClub‘s unfortunate absence.
Contrast will be added to the free offerings for PS+ users on Day One, which is actually a really neat addition. If you haven’t heard of the game, Contrast is from Compulsion Games and is a unique puzzle-platformer that has you switch between the 3D and 2D plane as a young girl’s imaginary friend. Yoshida described the title by saying “it will whisk you away to a surreal vaudevillian, film-noir inspired reality full of performance, intrigue, shadow-play and drama.” Not quite the same as a socially-focused simulation/arcade racer from the team that brought you MotorStorm, but definitely intriguing.
In addition, Yoshida announced that PlayStation Plus users will be treated to a free weekend of Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer on December 28 and 29, for all those lucky folks who happen to have received a PS4 as a holiday gift and are looking for a way to jump right in to the PlayStation ecosystem.
While it’s unfortunate that the PS4’s launch lineup has lost two considerably important games in as many days, there’s still a lot to look forward to as we get closer to November 15 and 29. We’ll keep you informed on all the happenings regarding the launch of the next PlayStation, and as soon as we know when you can strap on your racing gloves and settle in for DriveClub, you can be sure you’ll hear about here on SonyRumors.
