Early PS4 Adopters Get 30 Days of PS Plus, Music Unlimited and $10 PSN Voucher (updated)

day one surprise ps4

For most of us, $399.99 is a lot of money. And if you’re an early adopter of the PlayStation 4, chances are that’s not all you’ll be spending–there are games, accessories, apps, and more that will tempt many of us to reach Xbox One levels of spending. One added cost of the PlayStation ecosystem this generation, for those interested in online multiplayer, is a PlayStation Plus subscription. If you choose the most cost-effective plan, that will set you back at least another $49.99 in the US. All told, a new console generation can be a tab expensive.

Thankfully, the team at Sony Computer Entertainment America realizes this too, and today the Eric Lempel, Vice President of the Sony Entertainment Network (which includes PSN), announced on the PlayStation Blog that for a limited time PS4 owners in the US and Canada will receive vouchers for 30 days of PlayStation Plus, 30 days of Sony’s Music Unlimited service, and a $10 PSN Store voucher. Collectively this represents around $30 worth of savings–the one caveat is that the 30 days of Music Unlimited is good only when you sign up for a new Premium membership, which costs $9.99/month.

It had been reported previously that there would be a limited trial of PlayStation Plus for all new PS4 buyers, but Sony had said in the past this would be limited to only 14 days. Lempel and the PlayStation Blog don’t note for how long this offer or these voucher codes will be available in PlayStation 4 bundles, whether they will be limited to Day One adopters or if it will extend through the end of the year or longer. But, if you’re planning to pick up a console on November 15, you’ll have some extra goodies waiting for you.

UPDATE (11/8): According to Sid Shuman of the PlayStation Blog, the 30 days of PlayStation Plus is intended primarily for new users.

Shuman added in another comment, “Just confirmed they don’t stack if you’re a current subscriber…but you could share it with a friend.” Take note, users who already subscribe to the service.
