The PlayStation App, Sony’s official mobile companion to PSN and the very-soon-to-be-released PlayStation 4, is now available for download, according to Polygon and various other outlets. You can find it on the iTunes App Store or Google Play.
Announced in February, the PlayStation App allows you to access your PSN Account on compatible mobile devices. From the app, you can add friends on PSN, send voice, image, and text messages to those friends, and–when the PS4 launches this Friday in North America–view game footage and livestreams shared by PlayStation 4 users.
Interestingly, the PlayStation 4 app does not have native PSN/SEN Store functionality; when you select Store on the device, it opens your mobile browser to allow for purchase and remote download of PlayStation Network content. Whether this feature will be added at a later time is yet to be determined.
A previous version of the official PlayStation App was available to European mobile devices as early as 2010, though Polygon’s story notes that the functionality was much more limited. European PlayStation fans can expect the revised PlayStation App to be available for download on November 22 in advance of the PS4’s release in that territory the following week.
