Like the PlayStation 4 in the US, the PS4 has become the fastest selling console in UK history, beating rival Xbox One which sold 150K units. Previously, the record had been held by Sony’s PlayStation Portable which sold 180K units in its first week. It’s believed that the PS4 has broken the PSP’s record by a wide margin though specific sales numbers have yet to be revealed.
It’s also worth noting that the sales week in question ends on Saturday night which means the PS4 was able to achieve this in 48 hours. PS4 exclusive Killzone: Shadow Fall also made a strong debut at #4 on the sales chart while Knack landed in the #13th slot. While not seeming impressive, Knack was able to beat Nintendo’s Super Mario 3D World which came in just below at #14. To put things into context, the Wii U has been out for over a year in UK which should have garnered a much bigger install base. Mix that with a new Mario title which tends to sell in droves and you have a recipe for a blockbuster title. But with a disappointing #14th depute, Nintendo’s struggles are once again front and center.
