After announcing plans to give the QX10 and QX100 a host of improvements via a new firmware update come this January, Sony released a new update for the PlayMemories Mobile app. The app which is available for iOS and Android devices is required since the lenses lack their own screen. So what does PlayMemories Mobile app version 4.0 bring? Lets talk details.

Sony has said that the  new software update which can be downloaded from the App Store for iOS devices and Google Play for Android devices will feature:

• Embedded Photo Browser – A “Quick Viewer” photo browser has been added to the PlayMemories Mobile application, which will allow for seamless navigation between shooting images and viewing images in playback mode.
• Improved Speed and Functionality – The newest version of the application will have improved connectivity speed when linking to devices running the Apple iOS™ platform. More specifically, connection start up time will be approximately twice as fast compared to previous versions of the PlayMemories Mobile application.

According to Sony, another software update will land in Spring 2014 to improve connectivity speed with Android devices. As noted above, iOS devices will already see that benefit from the new app which is already live.
