As you’re reading this, Allegra and I have loaded up our car and are making our way towards Las Vegas to bring you everything Sony and PlayStation from CES 2014. Our biggest goals for this year are to provide you with more video than years prior to give you the best first hand experience from all the new products that will surely be announced. You can of course also expect regular coverage of the news that will be announced throughout the week. If you’d like to share your expectations of Sony from CES 2014, be sure to check out our previous post and you can also read what we’d like to see from Sony.
Besides checking back on our site, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Google+ throughout the week for additional coverage like short clips, photos, and commentary. If you’d like to see something specific, be sure to either comment on here or send us a tweet. We’re still trying to put together a live blog from Sony’s press conference on Monday night though that all depends on cell coverage during the event. We’ll be sure to give you all a heads up if we can pull it off. Till then, sit back, relax, and get ready for the onslaught of Sony coverage! For those of you wondering what equipment we’re trucking with us to CES, you can find a list of them after the jump.
For CES, the name of the game is power and portability. I need a camera that is versatile so it can do great photos and videos on the fly. The same is true for our computer. It needs to give me great battery life and yet be powerful to hand our video editing in full 1080p. So to make our entire trip be success, I use my favorite mix of companies, Apple and Sony to make the entire thing happen. While our iOS devices will be used for editing and doing quick captures, our Sony devices will power our photo galleries and videos like our NEX-5R with an attached shotgun mic (seen above) for better audio. I also love to take our Sony Bloggie Wi-Fi edition with us which gives fantastic battery life and decent video. While it’s not the NEX, it does great when you’re in a pinch or want to record some general video and don’t need all the power that the NEX has to offer. Some of our equipment include:
- MacBook Pro (our Final Cut Pro X rig)
- MacBook Air (our main website/article machine)
- iPad Air
- iPad mini
- iPhone 5S (2x)
- NEX-5R
- Bloggie Wi-Fi
- Xperia Tablet Z
- Cybershot QX10
- ReVIVE Solar ReStore USB Charger
To make all of this happen, we’re also taking tons and tons of chargers, adaptors, external hard drives, flash drives, and power cables to ensure we don’t run out of any juice. If that were to happen, we also have a separate portable USB battery charger that can take two iPhone 5S from dead to full charge. Best part about the ReVIVE (stupid spelling) charger is the built on solar panel which allows you to charge the device by simply leaving it outside. Perfect for when traveling and very useful overall since devices like the NEX and Bloggie also charge via USB.
In the end, no matter how prepared we think we are, we always seem to forget something or not have the right equipment combo. Now only time will tell what we’ve missed!
