Today Sony has announced two new Xperia smartphones also with dual-sim variants that are aimed for China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific rim.

The Xperia T2 Ultra is a LTE mid-range smartphone sporting a 6″ screen with a 720 x 1080 pixel display, 13 MP camera including the powerful Exmor RS sensor, running on a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm MSM8928 Quad Core processor.

We got a surprise today with new Xperia models; the T2 Ultra and Dual Ultra variant, also the E1 and its Dual version. Sony says that the T2 Ultra/Dual are targeting developing markets and that these are mid-range devices yet they don’t hold back on sharp specs. The E1/Dual are entry-level smartphones but don’t hold back on specs however.

If Sony offers the T2 Ultra/Dual as the first mid-range device of the year, then the new baseline for this segment now includes a 13MP camera with Sony Exmor sensor powered by a 3000 mAh battery. That’s a spectacular new standard for the year.

The display is clearly aimed to shine, besides running at 720 x 1080 pixels on a 6″ screen, (no sign of a stretched resolution as other large-sized phones sometimes do) notice that Sony has embedded the full suite of its display tech: Triluminos, X-Reality and Bravia Engine 2. Anyone who has owned an Xperia phone with even one of these techs know the difference it makes. Camera-lovers will be pleased to see a range of apps designed for editing and touching-up images, including AR effect, Timeshift burst, Portrait retouch, Background defocus and Social Life.

This really packs a punch as the new mid-range standard. Here are the full specs:

Xperia E1 / E1 Dual

The E1 was officially revealed by Sony today, the codenamed ‘Falcon’ model that we noticed passing through the FCC certification body in the US.

As mentioned, Sony calls this “The most powerful smartphone processor in its class”. This budget model runs a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm MSM8210 dual-core processor, if you were wondering. While we wait a long time for Google’s KitKat 4.4 operating system to roll out, which promises to provide a smooth and swift experience on Android devices running from the lowest to the highest specs, the Xperia E1 intends to deliver similar silky responsiveness by adding more power under the hood. More value for money? Yes please!

Also, you will be hearing a lot about it’s 100 dB speaker, and you will either love or hate reading that. Don’t miss the Walkman design cues along the edge of the phone, the logo is back.

The T2 Ultra/Dual, is this a good standard for mid-range? The E1/Dual, does the mega speaker make it more attractive than rival phones?
