Save Up to 60% Off at Closing Sony Stores

Unfortunately, the old saying that “one mans loss is another mans gain” continues to echo true. Late last month, Sony announced that they’d be closing 20 of their 31 retail stores in the US. While a significant reduction of the company’s retail presence, the closing of the store more importantly has drastic consequences for all employees who will soon find themselves without a job. With little retail stores left, Sony has no good destination to send the products that reside in each store. This has resulted in the company announcing a huge sale at each of these locations with up to 60% off.

After the jump, we’ve got more details about the sales but your milage may very.

According to Sony, sale items and percentages off include:

  • Cameras & Camcorders
    • 50% off All Cameras & Camcorders
  • eReaders
    • 50% off All eReaders
  • Media
    • 80% off Movies & Music CDs
    • 60% off All Accessories, Blank Storage Media & Software
  • Mobile Phones
    • 60% off All Cellular Telephones
  • PlayStation
    • 50% off All PlayStation Game Titles & Accessories
    • 25%  off All PlayStation Game Consoles
  • Portable Audio
    • 60% off All Portable Audio Products
  • TV & Home Audio
    • 60% off TV Stands & Wall Brackets
    • 50% off All TV & Home Audio/Video Components
  • VAIO
    • 25% off All VAIO Computers & Tablets

Having a Sony retail store (Century City) here in Los Angeles, I decided to visit our chain for a first hand experience. Unfortunately in my case, despite our store being the company’s flagship store where they debuted the new design that Sony hailed as their retail reboot, sales were nearly none existent.

I was hoping that this would give me the chance to snatch up a 4K display and a receiver, among other things but to my dismay, I was only able to find deals on accessories. In fact, all our store was able to offer was camera accessories (where they also didn’t have the W battery I needed), cases for VAIO and tablet products, and some headphones. Beyond that, no televisions, computers, receivers, tablets, cameras, and other big ticket items were to be found.

Despite that, it might still be worth your time to visit a closing Sony store near you as you never know what they may have. For those who live a bit further away than a comfortable drive, I’d recommend calling your store before heading out to see what exactly remains in their inventory.

It’s worth noting that the picture above is from the stores launch party. The store and the mood during our recent visit was much more morbid with many products and shelves have been taken off display or neglected.

Have you visited a Sony store that’s closing? If so, were you able to find any good deals?
