Xperia L 4.2 Jellybean Update Certified – 15.3.A.1.17 (Updated)

Xperia L Black Vertical Cropped

Sony is continuing it’s Jellybean rollout for Xperia owners, this time it’s the L.

The 4.3″ mid-range device that was released in May last year hasn’t enjoyed may updates yet, and is surely overdue a 4.3/4.4 upgrade that is worthy of it’s reasonable specs.

An update should be coming soon, as a new software version has been certified. It looks to be another 4.2 update, likely bringing bug fixes and a smoother UI.

Here’s the new software version that has been spotted, though it’s unlikely the 4.3/4.4 update just yet as the build number shows a small variation:

Xperia L 4.2 Update

Update – Sony’s official update page for the Xperia L does not yet show this version as available – but owners are mentioning it’s available via the usual Sony update methods; PC Companion, SUS and Bridge for Mac.

Here is a list of countries where version 15.3.A.1.17 is being reported as available:

C2104 (e.g. north America)

Argentina, Brazil, US, India

C2105 (most of the world, incl. Europe, Asia)

Poland, Central Europe, Greece, Germany, France, Belgium, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Netherlands, Nordic, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine

Saudi Arabia

Philippines, Singapore, Thailand

Changes detected by owners include:

  • Improved reception signal
  • Improved mobile data transfer
  • Crossover between GSM/WCDMA frequencies is faster

People mention that some bugs are still present however, related to the proximity sensor and NFC icon.

Not all smartphones get the same love in the software update department and there is much frustration about the lack of new features for this device over at Xperia Care (here and here).
