Recently Sony treated Xperia M users (and now Dual too) to 4.3 Jellybean. It brought cool new camera features, a slick, white UI and updated media apps. But some users have not had a good experience with the update. The stunning Xperia Themes which were shown off beforehand appear to be broken as no one can download them, the much-loved T9 keyboard is gone from the English keyboard settings and some users report frequent freezing or a sluggish UI in general.
A major global network has posted details of an update to the Xperia M mentioning “feature release 2”. Is a new update coming?
Update – This software update is now available, you can read more about the new Xperia M Update 15.4.A.1.9 here!
Some of the issues with the 4.3 update can be seen by users over at Xperia Care. There are several threads there and at the XDA development community but here’s a round up of problems that one user wrapped up:
More clues about this Xperia M update coming soon can be seen here. After the 4.3 Jellybean updated rolled out, another notice was been posted just two days ago:
News about the updates come from various places and one place alone is rarely reliable. The firmware registration site PTCRB that many of us check often tells us of new updates but sometimes doesn’t show them at all – the Xperia M Dual 4.3 update doesn’t appear, yet it’s available via Sony’s software update page.
The fact that the above list was posted just 2 days ago might mean that this really is a new update. While we might expect a bug-fixing update after a major jump in Android firmware, you have to notice the “feature release 2” phrasing. Feature release means…features! Not (just) bug-fixing.
Three other Sony phones are listed, Xperia SP and TX owners can look forward to a “quick maintenance release” and finally Z owners will have 4.4 KitKat in the coming weeks.
We’ll keep an eye on this and report if something more solid comes up.
