Continuing from the March milestone of 6 million units sold, Sony has now revealed that 7 m people now cherish their very own PS4.
The momentum has been compounding even since pre-orders began and more recently Sony announced that their launch window PS4 sales target before the year end of March 31st was reached a month ahead of schedule. Even the big competitor laments the PS4’s progress, as Microsoft’s head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, commented that ‘more needs to be done to beat the PS4.’ Can anything stop the PS4’s march?
These impressive sales figures bring us to April 6. Sony has surely been making its way to the next million since then.
…we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage. We look forward to unveiling many of these experiences to our fans in the coming months
Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
In addition to the rapid console sales growth, Sony boasts a total of 20.5m in software sales, both in store and online up to April 13th. This is a figure that fans might be less interested in, but Sony definitely is watching it. You might remember that speculation mounted before the latest generation of consoles launched gauging just how much Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo might depend on software sales to pay for the slim profits (if even a profit) on the consoles themselves. This robust figure with the notoriously pricey launch titles will surely provide a solid base for the company as it pushes hard to secure this generation of consoles as a PlayStation victory.

Should Sony be more concerned with the long-term view? Will the Xbox catch up with another price drop?
