It’s been ten years since the original SingStar came out on the PlayStation 2, and today Sony’s London Studios celebrated that birthday with the announcement of SingStar: Ultimate Party coming to the PlayStation 4. Over on the PlayStation Blog, game director Chris Bruce broke the news about the classic party game’s first entry on the PS4, and some really great details about how you’ll interact with the game if you don’t want to seek out those old plastic microphone peripherals.
Along with the reintroduction of SingStar to the PS4 audience, Bruce unveiled the SingStar app, which players can now use as their in-game microphone in place of the wireless mics from the previous PS3 interations. The app can also be used to create and organize custom playlists from song you own through the SingStore. The SingStar app will be free and available on iOS and many Android devices.
With the Share button on PS4, social connectivity has become easier than ever, and Bruce also commented that the studio was working to make it “easier to share the best bits (or epic fails) of your night on Twitter and Facebook straight from the game” in addition to more online connectivity to challenge friends.
SingStar: Ultimate Party will come to PS4 and PS3 later this year with 30 tracks included in the game, as well as access to tracks already purchased via the SingStore. In the comments on the US PlayStation Blog, Jenny Barbour did confirm that wireless PS3 microphones would be supported for the PS4 release, and any tracks purchased on the SingStore for PS3 would be available for the PS4 version of Ultimate Party. Barbour also mentioned that there were no plans for a PS Vita version of the game, but they are “always looking to do new stuff on SingStar” and a Vita version might be possible “in the future…”
More information on SingStar: Ultimate Party will surely come soon, with E3 and Gamescom right around the corner, so keep it tuned to SonyRumors for all the latest. Until then, check out the first trailer for SingStar: Ultimate Party below.
