According to Sony, the Xperia Z2 for Verizon is not happening, because how can a product that a company has yet to announce happen? Despite that stance, the company continues to “accidentally” release pictures of the Xperia Z2 sporting a Verizon logo on different social media outlets, only to take them down and claim something along the lines of them being for “mockup” purposes only. Now, only two things could be happening here. Either Sony has the world’s least competent social media team that somehow has access to unannounced products far before they’re official (unlikely). Or Sony is being extremely smart and is using us (the press/bloggers) to continue spreading the word that the Xperia Z2 will be coming to Verizon in the near future (highly likely).

While it seems all but confirmed at this point that the Sony Xperia Z2 is coming to Verizon, negotiations are likely still ongoing, hence why neither company has announced anything. Rumors indicate A Q3 2014 release date for the flagship Android smartphone but that in itself could prove to be problematic. If the Sony Xperia Z2 does come to Verizon this fall, it will have been released nearly 8 months after it was first announced. While the phone offers an array of impressive features, we can’t help but assume that many who waited for the phone to be available on a larger carrier have likely moved on and purchased another phone.

Even worse, it’s expected that Apple will be releasing the iPhone 6 this fall in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants. With an impressive amount of new features coming with iOS 8 and two larger screen sizes, many analysts expect Apple to dominate the holiday time. This means that unless Sony is going to suddenly change tactics and put together a meaningful marketing campaign for the phone (highly unlikely), that it will have the same fate as its other smartphones in the US. That is to say they’ll come unnoticed, have lackluster sales, and give carriers little reason to work with Sony.
