In the past, the FCC has been our best friend at revealing Sony’s hand for upcoming devices, particularly smartphones. For those not familiar, the FCC, or Federal Communications Commission, must approve all electronic products with wireless capabilities in the United States. This can range from simple Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity to more advanced wireless features like LTE. The latest device to make its rounds through the FCC appears to be the Sony Xperia Z3, the company’s next flagship Android smartphone.
While in the past we’ve been accustomed to getting juicer details from the FCC, this time around, not a whole lot is revealed. The particular device that passed through is the D6603 with FCC ID of PM-0800-BV. While the last number isn’t all that helpful to us, it’s the D6603 that gives it away and matches the previous Xperia Z3 leak. The testing also reveals a 5 GHz wireless chipset with 802.11 ac support for ultra fast Wi-Fi connection. Beyond that, we don’t know a whole lot other than that the software builds tested included 23.0.D.0.100 and 23.0.A.0.204 but those on their own are not all that revealing.
With previous leaks matching the FCC documentation, it likely means that Sony is preparing for an announcement within the next month where we will have the official Sony Xperia Z3 reveal.
