Meet the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua, 4.8-inch Waterproof Smartphone

Leaked for many months, the mid-range Sony Xperia M2 Aqua has officially been announced. As expected, the Xperia M2 Aqua features all the same specs from the Xperia M2, their midrange Android smartphone with one exception, waterproofing. Specifically, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua offers IP65/68 waterproofing which beats their current flagship Xperia Z2 (IP58). Thanks to the waterproof design, the Xperia M2 Aqua can sit in depths of 1.5 meters for up to half an hour without any problems, perfect for that accidental slip into the toilet or jump into the pool. (For those playing at home and living in California, I also hope Sony offers a dirt proof version of this in the near future as I’m not sure how much water will be left here soon. #DroughtIsForReal)

Lets talk more details after the jump.

As I mentioned previously, beyond the waterproof design, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is identical to the Xperia M2 that was released nearly 5 months ago. That means you can expect:

  • 4.8-inch qHD  Display (540 x 960 screen)
  •  1.2 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 400 Chipset With Adreno 305 Graphics
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB Internal Storage
  • SD Expansion
  • 8-Megapixel Exmor RS camera
  • 1.1-Megapixel Front Facing Camera
  • 1080p Video Recording
  • NFC and Bluetooth
  • 4G LTE
  • 2,330 mAh Battery
  • 149 Grams

The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua will launch this fall in black and white for Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Europe while unsurprisingly, no news on a North America release. While Sony has been mum on the price, a €220 ($300) is likely to be the hit your wallet sustains once released.
