Sony Teases ‘8 Million Reasons’ at CES 2015

For those not familiar, CES which will take place in Las Vegas next week is the world’s largest consumer electronic show (CES, see?). CES usually sets the stage for Sony’s strategy and tone for that year and televisions have always been a big part of that. Two years ago, Sony debuted their first consumer 4K television and followed up at CES 2014 with improved models and considerably lower price points. As the above image teases, Sony wants to give us 8 million reasons at this years CES. It’s worth noting that 8 million also happens to be the number of pixels in for something to be considered 4K.

Coincidence? Probably not. Lets talk after the jump.

As I mentioned earlier, CES for the last two years has set the stage for Sony and their 4K ambitions. At CES 2013, Sony would debut their consumer 4K televisions and usher in the arrival of 4K but it wasn’t till CES 2014 where we truly understood the scope that Sony had envisioned. In addition to introducing improved 4K TV’s, Sony was also able to dramatically lower their prices and give a much larger population access to the new format. But Sony went beyond 4K televisions and also brought to market a more affordable 4K streaming setup box and a 4K Handycam camcorder which they dubbed ‘4K for 2k,’ which referred to the cameras price.

With Sony now blatantly teasing 4K as part of their CES 2015 lineup, it sets the stage for the Japanese giant to not only expand their television line with likely even lower prices, but bring the technology to a wider variety of devices. This could entail new 4K camcorders, as well as smartphones and tablets with 4K screens.

What do you think Sony is teasing with their 8 million reasons image for CES 2015?
