One of the biggest reveals from CES 2015 was the embrace of Android TV by Sony. Offered on every 2015 4K television a majority of their HD televisions as well, Android TV will be the core user interface consumers will be faced with. This will hopefully result in not only a smart TV that’s actually smart, but one that has updated apps that can continue to grow and expand our experience with TVs. Traditionally, televisions have either been plagued by poorly written and sluggish apps that are never updated or are purely dumb boxes where apps and network functionality are brought to it via other setup boxes like Apple TV and gaming consoles like the PS4.
More details after the jump.
At CES 2015, Sony was took the time to show off their 2015 fleet of televisions with Android TV. In the video above, we can see the Android TV UI which gives you a glimpse of not only the home screen, but how Android TV will work once you’re actively engaged in content, be it from a Blu-ray movie or from traditional television (in this case DirecTV). It’s worth noting that the above video contains not the final build of Android TV and that both Sony and Google are still working on finalizing the details and functionality. To that end, while Sony engineers explained the Android TV UI, they asked that we provide on our own narration of the experience. So while things might change from till Spring when these units will ship, I think the video gives you a pretty good idea as to what you can expect from Sony’s 2015 fleet of TVs with Android TV.

Do you think Android TV will enhance the TV experience or would you mostly ignore the added functionality?
