When the 2015 Sony 4K televisions with Android TV launch later this year, expect to see a new app titled YouView that will not only make your life easier, but that of Sony’s as well. Thanks to a partnership between Sony and the new service, YouView will allow future Bravia owners to browse and view content from a host of UK providers all from one app. From a user perspective, this is brilliant as it removes the need to know which show belongs to which network.
From Sony’s point of view, all they need to do is negotiate with YouView and let them negotiate licensing with the different content providers. So which channels will you be able to access on YouView? We have the details after the jump.
As it stands the YouView app on 2015 4K Bravia TVs will offer content from:
- BBC iPlayer
- ITV Player
- 4oD
- Demand 5
All together, users will have access to YouView’s library of more than 12,000 titles of on demand TV programs as well as live TV. It’s currently unclear if YouView will be an exclusive app to those in Europe or if it will make its way on all Sony TVs – though it’s likely the former. John Anderson, Sony UK and Ireland country head:
The way we watch TV is changing, with more demand than ever for a large range of content, when we want it, how we want it. We’re delighted to be the first manufacturer in the UK to announce the addition of YouView to our range of TVs. We believe that our new BRAVIA range now has an unparalleled combination of Sony’s fantastic picture quality, fantastic design and the widest choice of content ever complete with Sony High Resolution Audio.
