Last night, thanks to the fantastically awesome and second Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser, the internets both imploded and exploded at the same time. Not being a fan of spoilers, I had initiated the “head in the sand’ protocol out of fear of too many spoilers from the movie, the same thing that I believe is currently plaguing Avengers: Age of Ultron in which case I feel as if the whole movie has been shown. Not wanting to eventually run into a screenshot of a pivotal scene from the trailer that would ruin a surprise, I finally caved in and saw the trailer which holds no punches yet reveals very little still, thanks to the mastery of J.J. Abrams. For those who haven’t seen it yet, the trailer can be found after the jump.
Less than 24 hours later, the internet is once again experiencing the impossible implosion/explosion. If the film trailer from yesterday can be described as having the destruction power of a fully operational Death Star, then today’s trailer from Star Wars: Battlefront likely packs the punch of a Star Destroyer. Much like the film teasers, the trailer gives away very little but what can be seen is impressive. That trailer, HD screenshots from it, more details, and a special stitched together widescreen image await you after the jump.
According to DICE General Manager, Patrick Bach, the trailer is all in-game with no pre-rendered CGI.
That’s our frostbite engine that we’re using, and all the assets that are in the trailer are actually from the game. None of it is fake really. It’s the game’s assets. Of course there are cinematic things we’re doing that is hard to play, but we want to prove that we can make our own trailers in the engine that we’re also making the game for. But we don’t try to trick anyone.
Of course the trailer scene is a bit more cinematic than what actual gameplay will be like but the way to think about it is from the photo mode options you get from games like DriveClub, Gran Truism 6, and inFamous: Second Son. All those beatiful captures are directly from your gameplay and so is the trailer from Star Wars: Battlefield which was running on PS4.
The trailer is built entirely in Frostbite and gives you a glimpse at some of the Star Wars battle fantasies you can expect in Star Wars Battlefront.
Thanks to the attacked PlayStation tag at the beginning and end of the trailer, it’s likely a safe bet that Sony will heavily be promoting this game in the same way Destiny was attached to PlayStation.
The screenshots below are also directly taken from the game and once again give a glimpse at the level of detail being put into this game. It’s worth noting that there are actually 6 HD screenshots released by Dice but one gives away the reveal at the end which is coincidentally being used all over. For that reason, I’ve excluded that screenshot. Well it seems like the official trailer’s thumbnail ruins that reveal so I’ve added that 6th screenshot back in.
Finally, for those who missed the Star Wars: The Force Awakens second teaser:
Bonus:
Here is a little extra love I put together for you Star Wars fans, all done via iPad nonetheless: a 3924 × 854 image of the crashed Star Destroyer. Please enjoy and share it with Star Wars fans. As always, no watermarking here. We’re all in this together. Keep in mind, once you click on the image, a higher resolution one appears. However, at the bottom right corner is where you can view the uncompressed version by clicking on the ‘view full size’ icon.
