As expected, albeit a month earlier than I had predicted, Sony has unveiled their next flagship Android smartphone, the Xperia Z4. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Sony Xperia Z4 offers a lot while not trailing away too far from the well-received Xperia Z3. So what’s changed? Quite a few things, including a new ‘selfie-friendly’ 5-megapixel front-fracing camera and a new processor to power it all.
Details after the jump.
While from the outset the Xperia Z4 looks quite similar to the Z3, Sony has been able to improve upon its predecessor with a 6.9-mm-thick, 144g metal-and-glass body structure. All this helps hold a vivid 5.2-inch 1080p display that also rocks a powerful 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera, capable of recording 4K video.
Powering all of this is a 2GHz 8-core 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor, and 3GB of RAM which runs on a 2930mAh battery. Another notable improvement includes support for Hi-Res audio and stereo speakers near the bottom. Like the Z3, the Sony Xperia Z4 will be water- and dust-resistant. Once launched, the Z4 will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop.
As it stands, Sony has made no announcement for ‘Compact’ models, nor has any information been given for countries other than Japan, which is expected to get the Z4 in Summer. The Xperia Z4 will be available in white, black, copper, and aqua green.
