PlayStation Now Comes to 2015 Sony Blu-ray Players

Just yesterday, we put together a list of devices that support PlayStation Now. With support for the streaming gaming service, you’re able to enjoy PlayStation 3 games without the need to own the console. All you need is a half decent internet connection (5Mbs or faster) and you’re off to the races. Now, Sony Blu-ray player owners can take advantage of the streaming service as well. More details after the jump.

Sony has announced that PlayStation Now is live for their 2015 fleet of Blu-ray players. You can read our 2015 Sony Blu-ray player guide where we highlight what makes each unit in the series unique. Presumably those with a 2015 unit should start seeing a software update available which will in turn download the PlayStation Now app.

Best of all, since all games are streamed, there is no need for actual hard drive space on your player, allowing you to play as many games as you wish. Besides owning a compatible player, you’ll also need a Dualshock 4 controller and USB cable to plug the controller into the Blu-ray player, seeing how none of the models come with Bluetooth support, which is a bit of bummer.

While I understand the lack of Bluetooth on the $70 player, it would have been a nice inclusion and worthy of a price increase on the flagship BDP-S6500. Support for PlayStation Now starts with the BDP-S3500, which is priced at $99.

Discuss:

Would you use PlayStation Now on devices like a Blu-ray player?
