While this likely doesn’t affect a great many people out there, Sony has decided to drop support for the Dualshock 3 controller on the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet, their two new flagship devices. Previously, you could use the PS3 controller to play mobile games but that no longer seems to be the case. Curiously, older Xperia Z devices still provide support for the Dualshock 3 though it could be only a matter of time before Sony removes support on them as well.
However, all is not lost for your gaming habits. Those details after the jump.
On its older fleet and new units like the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet, Sony is still providing support for the Dualshock 4, the latest controller which comes with PS4. One big feature of the PS4 is the ability to Remote Play its games on mobile devices like the Xperia Z3+.
So while unfortunate, it’s not likely that many were using the Dualshock 3 for other mobile games as Remote Play with PS4 requires Dualshock 4. Equally, all mobile games will support Dualshock 4 so even if you don’t own a PS4 but want to play supported mobile games with a controller, you can always opt for the latest controller from Sony.
