Sony’s newest mid-range smartphone, with a 13-megapixel front-facing camera and 21.5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 4K video, is getting its first case. Dubbed the SCR48 Style Cover Stand (Sony has always been known to be clever and short with their naming), this latest official case from Sony goes beyond just protecting the Xperia M5 and has a few neat tricks built in, like sleep/wake mode.
Those details and pictures after the jump.
Weighing at just 51 grams, the Sony SCR48 Style Cover Stand has openings for the rear-facing camera, power connector, and audio out. Those looking to take advantage of the phone’s front-facing shooter should note that they’ll need to open the front as there is no hole for that camera.
A unique feature of the case is its sleep/wake function. According to Sony
This smart accessory wakes your device when you flip open the cover and puts it into sleep mode when you close it.
Those with iOS devices will be familiar with this functionality, which is built into the iPad lineup with Apple’s Smart Cover cases. As you can tell from the pictures and name, the SCR48 Style Cover Stand also acts as a desk stand, allowing you to easily tilt back the Xperia M5 in landscape mode, perfect for watching some videos.
The Sony SCR48 Style Cover Stand will launch later this month alongside the Xperia M5. When released, it will be available in white and black – though no word yet on pricing.
