Absent at CES 2015 and not to be mistaken with the Sony Bluetooth X11, X33, and X55 speaker line, the latest entry from Sony targets those who want a bit more power from their portable speakers. Dubbed the Sony SRS-X77 (and not to be mistaken with the SRS-X7), this latest Bluetooth speaker packs a 40 watt punch with a built-in subwoofer and dual passive radiators.
Alongside a smooth sound, Sony has packed plenty of wireless technology to make sure the X77 can play nice with any device you have. Those details after the jump.
The Sony SRS-X77 offers a lot of unique audio technologies like DSEE-HX which revitalizes high-frequency audio response and upscales existing audio signals (MP3, ACC, ATRAC, and WMA) to Hi-Resolution levels. Via the SongPal app, ClearAudio+ can adjust your music on the fly with the best sound possible, adjusting audio levels to accommodate the genre.
Another thing that sets the SRS-X77 apart from similar devices (looking at you, Sonos) is the built-in battery which allows you to jam for up to 10hours (with Wi-Fi off). Thanks to a rear-mounted USB port, you can also charge other devices like smartphones and tablets though the X77 will obviously take a hit on its own battery life.
Saved for last and perhaps the best part of it, the Sony SRS-X77 offers an array of ways to have music streamed to it. For those with a touch of old school, simply plug in any device into it via 3.5mm audio in jack. For those for a flare for wireless, the X77 offers Bluetooth audio (with NFC support for easy pairing), DLNA for home servers, iTunes, and AirPlay which allows you to stream music directly from your iOS device without the range limitations of Bluetooth. The X77 also supports Google Cast.
Another unique feature of the X77 is the ability for it and similar speakers from Sony to connect to each other. Thanks to a new wireless chipset and the SongPal app, the Sony SRS-X77 and connect to the
- SRS-X88
- SRS-X99
- HT-ST7
- HT-T9
and stream the same music to different parts of the house. Think Sonos but multi-room streaming from Sony. Set to be arriving on store shelves soon, the Sony SRS-X77 is priced at $299.99 (£259).
