The Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium have officially been unveiled at IFA 2015 and give us a real glimpse at what may be a transforming Sony Mobile. While the design is the same body we’ve seen the latest few years, thanks to improved materials and subtle changes, Sony has been able to introduce three very elegantly designed phones. Alongside their premium finishes comes some very refined specs.

While it might be too early to judge the phone, instead of opting for large numbers, Sony has instead focused on the smaller details to make sure each Xperia Z5 is world class. With a world class phone comes a world class price. After the jump, we reveal their price and show how they compare to the market leader iPhone.

Unlike iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ which come with different storage capacities, the Xperia Z5 family has a simple 32GB size option. From there, others can upgrade their storage via microSD up to 200GB.

  • Sony Xperia Z5 Compact (4.6-inch display)
    • 32GB – £549
  • Sony Xperia Z5 (5.2-inch display)
    • 32GB – £599
  • Sony Xperia Z5 Premium (5.5-inch display)
    • 32GB – £699

For comparison, Apple is pricing their phones as such

  • iPhone 6 (4.7-inch display)
    • 16GB – £539
    • 64GB – £619
    • 128GB – £699
  • iPhone 6+ (5.5-inch display)
    • 16GB – £619
    • 64GB – £699
    • 128GB – £789

Historically, carrier partners have sweetened the pot for would-be buyers via goodies like headphones or gift cards. On top of that, don’t be surprised if these prices are lowered in a few months or by retailers like Amazon.

With Sony’s desire to play in the premium market, they’ve certainly shown off a family of phones which, from initial impression, seem to offer everything you’d want from a flagship phone. Assuming the quality matches the price tag, the only thinking stopping the company from having a successful launch will be their own preparedness with ample inventory, carrier support, and advertising.
