Sony sure knows how to kick off the holiday shopping frenzy. While the team at PlayStation has things covered, having just announced 30.2 million PS4 units sold, Sony Mobile continues to struggle on, well, everything. Last week, it was revealed that for some reason or another, the Sony Xperia Z3+ would be sold as an unlocked device through B&H Photo with a $499 price tag. Nothing says we truly don’t give a damn like releasing a 7-month old device (and not their newest Z5 flagship series) at full price on a site that most people have never heard about. Luckily they’ve since added Amazon but that’s also a hot mess that you’ll see after the jump.
Honestly, will Sony even move a thousand of these? I doubt it. If they could, there would be some carrier support here. At any rate, if you’re interested in the Xperia Z3+ or the much better designed and highly under appreciated Xperia Z4 Tablet, then Sony is looking to sweeten the pot by giving you a $50 PSN gift card. Details after the jump.
Again, the promotion is simply bizarre. If this was a Google Play gift card, then it would make a bit more sense. Hell, if this was a ‘PlayStation’ phone or tablet, the promotion would make sense but really, if this was a PlayStation device, then we finally have a promo worth talking about because there is value. However the off chance that somebody wants a Xperia Z3+ and found $499 too expensive but could get $50 on PSN, assuming they have a PlayStation console, is just nonsensical. It’s as if Sony Mobile had a quota they had to hit in offering a promotion and so they created the most half-assed thing they could.
You can also tell that whomever put the product together had no real sense of the unit and couldn’t be bothered to check Sony’s own website to know that it’s ‘Hi-Res Audio’ and not hi-res audio. Oh and lets slap Uncharted on there for some reason. I hear it’s popular with them kids.
From Sony
Now available in the U.S., the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet feature hi-res audio and stunning display. And when you buy either device from Amazon.com or BHPhotoVideo.com, you’ll get a $50 PS Store credit.
Best yet, if you go to Amazon and search for Xperia Z3 Plus, this is the minefield you land on. I cover tech and I have no idea which one to go with because I’m fairly certain that none of those are the units Sony is considering under this promotion. Oh Sony Mobile…

Does a promotion like this entice you or is it completely irrelevant in your decision-making process?
