In the next month or so, PS4 system software 3.5, codenamed Musashi, will be released. With it, we can expect a host of new features like the ability to send event or party invitations to groups or communities. Alongside system enhancements and new features, Sony is bringing more accessibility support to the console which is always great to hear. Unsurprisingly, details are light on the latter and we don’t know all the details of the new firmware.
However, what we do know about PS4 system software 3.5 can be found after the jump.
Officially Sony has revealed the following changes with Musashi:
- Friend Online Notification – Want to know the moment your friends come online? With this update, you can, as we’ve added an option to be notified when members of your friends list sign on the network.
- Appear Offline – Sometimes you want to play a game or watch a movie without being bothered by friends. Now it’s easier to go incognito as we’ve added the option to appear offline. You can designate if you would like to appear offline when you log-in or at any time from your Profile or the Quick Menu.
- User Scheduled Event – Time for a play date! We’ve added the ability to schedule a future gameplay session with your friends on the system. When your event starts, users who registered for the event will automatically be added to a party so you can start playing right away.
- Play Together – This features allows all members of a Party to see what each person is playing so that you can easily join a friend’s game, or start a new game together.
- Remote Play (PC/Mac) – We’re bringing PS4 Remote Play to Windows PC and Mac. This feature won’t be available to test in the beta, but you can look forward to it soon.
- Dailymotion – With this update, you’ll be able to live stream directly to Dailymotion on PS4. We’ll also support archiving live broadcasts, like we do for other streaming services.
Unofficially, we’ve learned that you can also expect:
- You can now send event or party invitations to groups or communities.
- You can now share other players’ activities. In [What’s New], for example, select an activity to share and then select (Share Activity).
- Depending on the content, verified accounts are now displayed on the content info screen so that you can follow the accounts more easily.
- PlayStation Network service status can now be checked by selecting (Settings) > [Network] > [View Status of PlayStation Network Services]
- Notification messages are no longer displayed when Friends join parties. You can change the setting in (Settings) > [Notifications] > [When Friends Join a Party].
- All users of a certain age or older can now play games offline by creating a sub account, even without a master account holder’s permission. Use all of features normally available to sub account users requires a master account holder to sign in to PlayStation Network and approve use of the features.
- More features now support accessibility.
I’ll have more on the next major firmware update for PS4 as details will inevitably continue to trickle out of the beta. Side note: Only hardcore Square-Soft (yes, I used that name) fans will get the above image.

Do any of the above features have you excited?
