As you guys know, I don’t run a clickbait website. More often than not, I try to ensure that the article titles I run are exactly in alignment with what I’m writing. And when it’s not that, I try to ensure that I don’t take portions of a longer winded piece and cherry pick aspects of it to fit a certain narrative. That’s why the following headline absolutely pushes my buttons:
Until Dawn developer Super Massive no longer wants to be a Sony exclusive develper
And yes, that typo (which I fixed in our headline) is actually there. Expect studio director, Pete Samuels, said no such thing. What he said was:
I’ve loved it, they are great to work with and we have a strong relationship with them. I think a lot of the work we do with them aligns well with what we want to do and where we want to go. But yes, we are an independent studio and we are keen, going forward, to bring our games to wider audiences than we have in the past. That’s what we are all about right now, and it’s an exciting time for us.
Nowhere in what he’s said is the hint of regret or dismay that the article header portrays. Instead, as a 3rd party studio who is open to work with whomever they want, much like Insomniac Games, Supermassive wants to expand their reach – and why shouldn’t they? As a developer, do you know what’s better than reaching 40 million gamers on PS4? Reaching 60 million gamers on PS4 and Xbox One.
The best part is that they took their information from MCVUK which ran the following and much more appropriate headline:
Until Dawn creators Supermassive plots multiplatform move
But apparently somewhere between there, the guys at Supermassive got sour on Sony. What’s worse is that it’s not even a slow news week. Each day, 5 new games are being announced prior to E3 so it’s not as if there is a shortage of content to cover.

Do you guys ever think we run clickbait headlines?
