While the Xbox One S has been released into the world with a whimper, it’s safe to expect something a bit more flashy from Sony. Come September 7th, the PlayStation maker will take the stage in New York where they’re expected to unveil PS4.5, PS4K, PlayStation 4 Neo or whatever it is that we’re calling it these days. While not a lot is known about the PS4 successor, what we do know is this.
It’s obviously going to be more powerful – but how powerful remains a mystery. The Xbox One S is said to be around 7% more powerful than the Xbox One and Neo should be considerably more powerful than that. While increased horsepower means smoother running games, it will be interesting to see if Sony allows for developers to really tap into the extra power for games or if it will be a kept for a better overall experience on PS4 while using apps and other features like streaming.
4K HDR is also another given but it remains to be seen if we’ll get actual 4K games or if we’ll merely get 4K movies. I’m frankly fine with the latter as I’m not convinced we can get true 4K gaming out of whatever Sony puts under the hood, unless Neo were to cost $899 which it won’t. Otherwise, when we still can’t get every game to be locked at 1080p 60fps, what hopes do we have for 4K gaming currently? Perhaps we can have that with PS5 or codename Agent Smith.
Many also believe that Neo is designed to drive better VR games but I’ve so far seen very little proof of this but it doesn’t mean it’s not possible. Besides that, despite a massive document leak regarding Neo, a lot of details remain under wraps which frankly makes the event that much more interesting and exciting. As for me, I’m more curious about the narrative that surrounds Neo and how Sony will position the new console because thus far, Microsoft has done a terrible job.
Oh, and I’ve been told we can expect a livestream from Sony so don’t fret if you can’t attend the event which kicks off at 3 PM EST.

Do you think we’ll see anything else besides PlayStation 4 Neo on September 7th?
