According to Greg Lewickyj, PlayStation Plus Content Partnership Manager, pricing for the digital service is about to increase.
This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members
By just how much? The cost of two Frappuccinos.
According to Greg,
Starting on September 22, 2016, prices for PlayStation Plus memberships will change to $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD for twelve months and $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD for three months. The monthly plan will change to $11.99 CAD in Canada, and remain $9.99 USD in the U.S. If you are a current member, the new prices will take effect if your membership renews on or after this date.
Frankly I’m surprised it’s taken this long for Sony to tweak their pricing for the service that’s the backbone of the PlayStation experience. In addition to nearly every PS4 title including a multiplayer game, something that wasn’t true in 2010, Sony continues to offer a plethora of free games each month. On top of that, PS4 has a lot more network features than its predecessor like the ability to stream games, all which costs Sony.
As of right now, the price increase has yet to be announced for Europe though that’s likely only a matter of time. As for those hoping to saving the extra $10, you can still hop on Amazon and purchase a 12-month subscription for $49.99.

Does the new price increase bother you or is it business as usual?
