As somebody who puts Remote Play to good use on my iMac, the following news is nothing but joy. Alongside officially announcing the coming of PlayStation Now to PC, Sony has also unveiled the DualShock 4 USB wireless adaptor for the Mac and PC. Until now, those who’ve wanted to use Remote Play on their Mac/PC have had to plug their controller in with limited functionality (i.e., no headset support). With the adaptor, all that changes.
Eric Lempel, SVP, PlayStation Network:
We’re also introducing a new device, the DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor, which launches in early September for a suggested retail price of $24.99. This adaptor will let you connect a DualShock 4 to PC and Mac wirelessly, and will enable every feature of the controller you know and love: buttons, analog sticks, touch pad, light bar, motion sensors, vibration, and stereo headset jack – as long as the gaming application supports these features.
In addition to working with Remote Play which is a free download for Mac and PC, you can also use the new wireless adaptor with Sony’s just announced PlayStation Now service for PC which allows you to stream over 400 PS3 titles. As a hater of all cords, this a no brainer purchase on my end though keep in mind, that $25 price tag is just for the adaptor and you’ll still need to supply your own DualShock 4 controller.
