Here’s some interesting information about Russia and the status of Android. According to apteligent,
Russia has the worst Android device fragmentation in the world
Not only that, but
it takes over 230 devices to finally reach 90% of device usage in the region.
In fact,
the most popular device takes only a little over 5% of the market
With Android 7.0 Nougat on the way, things will likely not get any better. As for the top 10 Android phones in Russia, clearly one company is dominating – Samsung. Interestingly, despite running on a 2 year old build of Android (Lollipop), Samsung at least has a fairly consistent build across the many devices they have there.
Compare this against the United States, where the top device, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has about 12% usage share and the top 10 devices in total reach about 44%. Even more dramatic is Australia, where that same device has over 48% of the market and the top 10 devices represent about 74% of device usage.
As for Sony, unsurprisingly, they don’t find themselves in the top 10, due to their more premium nature and small footprint in the country – though they do operate there.
