In order for PlayStation Vue to be truly successful and ubiquitous with your watching habits, it needs to be available on as many devices as possible. For the better part of 2016, Sony has been working on just that with the service now available on PlayStation devices, iPhone/iPad, Android, and Android TV. Starting today, you can add your web browser to that list as well.

Expanding to the web is something I never gave much thought to but it’s actually a brilliant move on their part. Netflix has already trained us that whether we’re away with our laptop or on a break at work, watching shows is as simple as logging in via our preferred browser. By bringing PlayStation Vue to the browser, Sony has brilliantly expanded the service’s reach by hundreds of millions of devices without needing to go through the process of building an app from the ground up.
With that, I do hope that this is a temporary solution for computer users and that Sony does eventually release a dedicated PS Vue app in both the Mac and Windows app stores, respectively. While the web browser is liberating and gives them access to users who might not ever discover or have access to the app store, especially for most Windows users who are on either older builds or are not accustomed to visiting it, a dedicated app has its benefits – from more robust UI to options and features simply not possible through HTML code.
Speaking of apps, I hope the next frontier Sony looks to cross is bringing PS Vue to Apple TV and I’m not the only one who wants it – just check out all the replies to the above tweet.
