This is big news for both Sony and their ability to work with all sorts of companies in order to better their own service and in turn, create a better product for their customers. I’ve written that the Sony of the past would often hold technology and services for their own in hopes of increasing the value of their own hardware/software ecosystem but could never pull off the vision like Apple. Today’s news goes counter to that culture that was ever so engrained in them and is all about empowering their customers, no matter which platform they’re on.
Dan Myers, Head of Product, PlayStation Vue writing on the PlayStation Blog:
Today we are pleased to announce PlayStation Vue’s expansion to Apple TV. As one of the most highly requested devices by our fans, the PlayStation Vue experience on Apple TV will provide viewers with a better option to watch your favorite live TV programming, with unique streaming features such as cloud DVR, simultaneous streaming, and no long-term contract commitments.
Starting today, PlayStation Vue will be supported on Apple TV (4th generation), leveraging Apple TV’s latest hardware to create an innovative experience. You will be able to take advantage of Apple TV’s Siri Remote and easy navigation with touch, while enjoying PlayStation Vue’s sleek look and feel. PlayStation Vue brings popular programming to Apple TV, from live sports networks like ESPN and NFL Network, to premium channels like AMC, FX, HBO, and Showtime.
I’ve yet to sign up for the service as for the most part, Time Warner, now Spectrum, has treated me fine – that and the fact that I love my TiVo and have been with them for well over a decade. But that doesn’t mean I’m not watching less and less of traditional TV and more through Netflix, HBO, and Showtime, so switching over to PS Vue, especially now that they’re on Apple TV (which, outside of TiVo, is how we do most of the TV watching in our household) might not be as far fetched as it was just a day ago. Is PS Vue coming to Apple TV a big deal for you?
