Dear anybody at Sony Pictures, please begin writing the second Spider-Man flick that’s actually being truly helmed by Marvel/Disney and make sure that Carnage has a role in it. Unlike the previous outing of Venom which was too rushed for a character with depth, I have no problem with a simple setup for Carnage and a true reveal in Spidy’s third solo outing.
According to Angie Han from SlashFilm, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the man behind Hamilton and other various projects at Disney, wants to play the sinister Spider-Man foe.
[Miranda] is a big fan of Marvel. And there is one particular character that he would actually like to play. It’s Carnage. He said if Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a Maximum Carnage movie or bringing Carnage in [the MCU] as a character, he wants to be Carnage. Genuinely as a fan, he would love to play Carnage. That’s a goal of his.
As for his other involvements with Disney, they include
Star Wars: The Force Awakens soundtrack, wrote music for Moana, is set to star in Mary Poppins Returns, and will help out with the soundtrack for the live-action Little Mermaid.
With Carnage being one of the few villains that’s yet to make a debut on the big screen during Spidy’s past five outings, bringing the ultra-power character seems like a good and fresh choice, especially if a big time actor is down for playing the role. The introduction of Venom, Carnage, and with it, the symbiote suit, allow the Spider-Man series to explore more cosmic storylines which a majority of the MCU has been embracing.
Obviously having an actor onboard is one thing and putting together a story and visual philosophy for such an iconic character is something entirely different. Still, seeing Miranda play the vicious villain and Spider-Man team up with Venom to defeat him sure does sound like a storyline I’d like to watch unfold. Would you like to see the Spidyverse explore the Venom/Carnage storyline?
