VR is all about the experience. Yes, visual fidelity matters, yes, the narrative is important, but those are things that have already been expressed and expressed well in gaming. Look no further than Uncharted, a traditional game, as it were, yet at the forefront of storytelling and gameplay. That means in order for VR to be truly captivating, it must offer the mentioned aesthetics and then some which is where ‘experience’ comes into play. Leading up to PlayStation VR’s launch, Sony was busy getting as many people as they could to try it because they knew that was the best way to sell it.
But how do you push more games to somebody who already has one? After all, we already know what Battlefront is, so how can VR really add to it? — watching a video of an eagle fly around might be fine but perhaps not enough to make one part with their hard earned money. Enter demos, something of a lost thing in this generation of gaming, but one that’s sorely needed for PlayStation VR, and luckily, Sony is bringing 5 big VR demos starting tomorrow. John Koller, Vice President, PlayStation Brand Marketing, SIEA writes on PS Blog that
- Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission
- Eagle Flight
- Batman: Arkham VR
- PlayStation VR Worlds (two new experiences)
- Rigs Mechanized Combat League
will all be playable at Best Buy and GameStop locations nationwide. It’s unclear at this point if those demos will also be coming to PlayStation Store at some point which I sure hope is the case. As somebody with a headset already, I don’t want to go all the way out to a store just to give Eagle Flight a shot when I can already do it at home. Which of those PlayStation VR demos would you like to try?
