When the Xperia XZ Premium finally arrives next month, it’s going to offer Sony’s best camera to date. The basics of the camera we’ve known for some time, like its new 960fps slow-mo camera which can also be found on the Xperia XZs. But things that are unique to it include an all new 19-megapixel camera sensor with 19% bigger pixels and a redesigned G Lens.

But that’s not all. Here’s Xperia Blog with the details:

Sony has also re-designed the G Lens (25mm wide angle, F2.0) to improve the resolution in the corner of images. Sony says that the resigned lens has 25% better resolution compared to the Xperia XZ.

Sony has also enhanced the laser autofocus so that it works not only in low light conditions, but also in bright light conditions. Sony has confirmed that the autofocus speed is up to 50% faster in the Xperia XZ Premium versus the Xperia XZ. It seems that Sony has tweaked its algorithms to ensure images have less ‘white out’ when taking images at night.

Sony has long had some of the best camera sensors compared to their rivals but routinely offers inferior photos due to lacking software. If Sony can solve this internally, it could serve as an important driver of sales, seeing how camera technology is one of the biggest reasons consumers upgrade their phones.
