Remember that surprise Xperia L1 which was announced back in March? Well the phone is about as real as it gets now with a $200 price tag and it’s available to buy starting today on Amazon. Offered in black, white, and pink, the entry level phone has a few noteworthy specs going for it like:

  • 5.5-inch 720p display
  • MediaTek MT6737T 64-bit Quad-core 1.5GHz processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB of storage
  • microSD slot
  • 13-megapixel rear-facing camera
  • 5-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 2,620mAh battery

According to Amazon:

Unlocked and compatible with GSM/LTE carriers utilizing GSM network such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Straight Talk, MetroPCS, Cricket Wireless, Simple Mobile, Bright spot, and others.

Sony Mobile, which has continued to see its sales decline, predicts a rise in sales for FY2017 and perhaps this phone is part of that strategy as we haven’t seen an entry level phone from them like this in quite some time. The Xperia L1 can also play particularly well in developing nations where price sensitivity is greater than in developed nations where Apple and Samsung dominate. It’s also worth noting that in those countries, the Sony brand likely carries far more weight than HTC, Opo, or Huawei which have a slew of budget phones.

Though not likely a phone for a majority of those who read SRN, what do you think of the specs for the price?
