Just looking at the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX90V specs, you’ll likely walk away impressed, but, as we all know, specs only tell part of the story. With the HX90V, Sony wants you to rethink the lack of a compact camera in your life by offering a few things that your smartphone will likely never be able to. This includes an impressive 30x optical zoom which extends to 60x digital zoom with a 18.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor that’s sure to give you crisp photos, even in low light. But the HX90V also takes a few cues from smartphones, like including GPS for Geotagging photos and videos.

What truly sets the Sony HX90V apart from any smartphone and even most compact cameras is its retractable electronic viewfinder, which makes taking photos/filming a much easier affair in the sun. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX500 Specs

Last week, Sony announced their latest compact cameras, the Cyber-shot HX90V and the WX500. We’ve already brought to you the HX90V specs which you’ll find nearly identical between the two cameras. That means you can expect the same phenomenal 30x optical zoom (60x digital zoom), built-in GPS, NFC, and 180-degree tilt LCD for your selfies. Earlier this week, Sony announced the Cyber-shot HX90V. While a compact camera these days isn’t nearly as sexy as a new smartphone, what makes the HX90V impressive is its zoom. Featuring a compact design, the new Cyber-shot offers a mind-bending 30x optical zoom and 60x digital zoom, something no smartphone can match. Alongside that zoom is an 18.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor that’s ready to take whatever you throw at it. New Sony RX100 With Larger Sensor On the Horizon?

Chock this up purely under the rumor category, but it’s believed that Sony is looking to update the RX100 in the near future, which by itself shouldn’t be a shocker. It’s believed that the next revision will offer a larger sensor than the current model and in doing so, will be slightly larger in size. Backing up the rumors is a new listing by Sony which features two new Four Thirds sized sensors with 16-megapixels and 20-megapixels.

Meet the Sony Cyber-shot WX500 (updated)

Alongside the Cyber-shot HX90V, Sony also unveiled the Cyber-shot WX500 to join its nimble fleet of compact cameras. If from the front you can’t tell the difference between the HX90V and WX500, don’t worry, it’s not you. Besides sharing a near identical shell, the WX500 also provides near identical specs as the more expensive HX90V.

While many of us, including yours truly, have mostly replaced digital cameras, especially a compact camera like the Cyber-shot series from Sony, with a smartphone, we all still wish from time to time that we had one. With the just-announced Cyber-shot HX90V, Sony wants you to rethink the lack of a compact camera in your life by offering a few things that your smartphone simply can’t. Sony Announces 4 Full-frame E-mount Lenses, 2 New Ultra-wide & Fisheye Converters

Continuing its assault on old dominant players like Canon and Nikon, Sony has announced four new full-frame E-mount lenses. Designed for the Sony a7 cameras, these new lenses include a ZEISS Distagon T FE 35mm F1.4 ZA wide angle lens, an FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS lens, an FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS hi-magnification zoom lens and an FE 28mm F2 wide angle prime lens.

Sony to Invest $805 Million to Increase CMOS Image Sensor Production

Sony_Image_SensorOn the heels of announcing the closure of the Japanese Sony Semiconductor Oita Technology Center, the plant responsible for the Cell processor and RSX chip inside the PS3, Sony has revealed a hefty invest plan. According to their press release, Sony will be investing $805 million (approximately 105 billion yen) in their Nagasaki TEC and Yamagata TEC plants. These two factories are responsible for Sony’s CMOS image sensor production which powers the company’s imaging division. Beyond Sony’s own fleet of smartphones and DSLR, Sony has been ever expanding its reach into the medical space by utilizing their image sensors and 3D technology to create better scanners and other related equipment for doctors. Apple has also been one of Sony’s largest clients and has been using Sony sensors in their smartphone lineup since the iPhone 4S.

Meet the Sony 4K Action Cam (FDR-X1000V)

At CES 2015, Sony continued to show their commitment to 4K by making the ultra high resolution format more affordable and available on a larger variety of devices. Ironically, in this article, we’ll be introducing to you one of the smallest ways to record 4K content. Enter the Sony 4K Action Cam FDR-X100V. As the name suggests, this small POV camera is capable of recording native 4K while still fitting in the palm of your hand. Best of all, the camera is jam packed with features that will help you get the best footage possible, no matter if it’s shot in 4K or 1080p.

Using NFC to Transfer Photos Between Sony Cameras and Smartphones

At CES 2015, Sony was showing off new ways to use NFC between their devices. As shown in the video above, the Sony Xperia Z3 was able to act as the viewfinder and control for the Sony Alpha with a simple tap. Beyond controlling the camera, the Sony Alpha will also send a lower resolution picture to the Xperia Z3 for easy sharing.

Comparing the Sony Action Cam With SteadyShot Turned On and Off

At CES 2015, Sony was showing off their SteadyShot technology which helps reduce shaky videos. Offered in their lineup of Action Cam MP4 cameras, Sony mounted two units side by side on a bike handle with a vibrating plate underneath them to simulate a bike ride. The video above shows SteadyShot on (monitor on the left) and SteadyShot off (monitor on the right) on the Sony Action Cam, which can be utilized even when recording at 1080p 120fps.

As you can see from the video above, the outcome is quite remarkable.

Sony Showcases Their Mobile Products Underwater

Though it’s a far cry from an underwater store in Dubai, Sony brought their full line of waterproof devices to CES 2015 and put them on display in a tank of water. Products shown include the Sony SmartWatch 3, SmartBand Talk, Xperia Z3, and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Enjoy your trip to Dubai Las Vegas in the video above!

Meet the Sony FDR-AX33 Camcorder – “4K for 1K”

4K has become more affordable. You may remember the slogan from last year – “4K for 2K.” That saying received an update by Sony Electronics President and COO Mike Fasulo on the Sony press conference stage on Monday. Now boasting “4K for 1K,” Sony has brought 4K into an entirely new price point and demograph. The new Sony FDR-AX33 4k HandyCam camcorder brings with it a 30% smaller and 20% lighter design at half the price of the AX100.
