DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor Coming to Mac and PC

DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor

As somebody who puts Remote Play to good use on my iMac, the following news is nothing but joy. Alongside officially announcing the coming of PlayStation Now to PC, Sony has also unveiled the DualShock 4 USB wireless adaptor for the Mac and PC. Until now, those who’ve wanted to use Remote Play on their Mac/PC have had to plug their controller in with limited functionality (i.e., no headset support). With the adaptor, all that changes.

Official: PlayStation Now Coming to PC

PlayStation_Now_PC_2

As expected and rumored earlier in the month, Sony has officially announced the arrival of PlayStation Now to PC. According to Eric Lempel, SVP, PlayStation Network:

We’re excited to announce that PlayStation Now is making the jump to Windows PC. The app launches overseas in parts of Europe soon and will come to North America shortly thereafter.

PlayStation Plus Membership Will Increase by 2 Frappuccinos a Year

PlayStation_Plus

According to  Greg Lewickyj, PlayStation Plus Content Partnership Manager, pricing for the digital service is about to increase.

This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members

By just how much? The cost of two Frappuccinos.

PS4 Slim Leaks Via a Sold Unit?

PS4_Slim_Leak_1

Well this is a bit of a bizarre story – according to an earlier report from the WSJ, people “familiar with the matter” had confirmed to them that come September, Sony would be unveiling not one, but two new PS4 units. The first of the two machines is PS4 Neo, the 4K variant and more powerful PlayStation that was even previously confirmed to exist by Sony. The other of the two machines seemed more of a mystery, until now.

Microsoft Still Coy that Xbox Scorpio Will Have Exclusives Over Xbox One S

Xbox_Scorpio

One of the biggest kerfuffles out of E3 2016 was the unveiling of Xbox One S and Xbox Scorpio, the true successor to Xbox One that will launch sometime in late 2017. At that time, Microsoft announced that even Xbox One S would run games better than Xbox One, only to backtrack on their statement and spat with journalists over it, only to later on confirm it. The next topic at hand, which was also dealt with similar confusion, was the possibility of exclusive Xbox Scorpio games which Microsoft reaffirmed was an absolute no, only to now backtrack on it – though there is a big caveat to it.

Konami Announces Metal Gear Survive

Metal_Gear_Survive_Zombie_Crystal

Because you’ve all been clamoring for a new Metal Gear game, Konami, one of the most loved(?) game publishers of the past five years has decided to indulge you with a new entry in the series. Acting as official canon, Metal Gear Survive takes place directly after Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes (which you’ll soon see in the trailer) when soldiers from the mercenary corporation Militaires Sans Frontières, and I shit you not, are sucked through a wormhole into an alternate universe.

Destiny: The Collection Includes Every DLC For Just $60

Destiny_The_Collection

I’m not going to say Destiny is the greatest game ever created but I’m also not going to say it’s not. In fact, nearly four years into PS4’s release, the game that I routinely go back to is Destiny. Don’t get me wrong, the game surely lacks the cinematic and emotional storytelling of Uncharted 4 but when I have some time to kill, Destiny is the game I can easily reach for and sometimes a quick 20 minute session turns into a 2 hour raid which I’m also okay with. That’s why I’m beyond excited for Rise of Iron, the newest DLC, which will drop on September 20th (a day before my birthday) and is set to bring new areas to explore with new guns, enemies, and strikes.

Final Fantasy XV Delayed for the Better

Final_Fantasy_XV_Gas

For those of you who follow me on Twitter (@SonyRumors), you’ll know that I’ve been championing Square delaying Final Fantasy XV after rumors broke out about a potential delay. For a title that was announced 10 years ago, another two months is frankly meaningless – but more importantly, another two months can go a long way towards tidying up the game.

Long time readers of SRN will know that I routinely favor game delays for the simple reason that you only launch once. In Square’s case, a lot is riding on this title that’s surely been an expensive endeavor to develop and redevelop – and poor reviews based on technical hiccups can go a long way towards reducing the game’s total sales potential. Not only that, but fans who’ve stuck out this long to get a game that’s potentially worthy of the Final Fantasy moniker deserve something truly special and not a bug-ridden game that gets ironed for two months after release.

So what was the exact cause of the delay? Director Hajime Tabata explains:

PlayStation Now Coming to PC and It’s Genius

PlayStation_Now_CES

PlayStation Now, Sony’s streaming service which allows you to play PS3 games, is already available on a magnitude of devices, including PS3, PS4, and 2014-2016 Sony TVs and Blu-ray players amongst other devices. This means that potentially millions of people who don’t own a PlayStation console can experience over 400+ games offered by Sony. Think of it as the making of Netflix for gaming on a grand scale, and apparently that scale is about to get much larger.

Sony Likely to Unveil PlayStation 4 Neo on September 7th

PlayStation_4_Neo_Invite

While the Xbox One S has been released into the world with a whimper, it’s safe to expect something a bit more flashy from Sony. Come September 7th, the PlayStation maker will take the stage in New York where they’re expected to unveil PS4.5, PS4K, PlayStation 4 Neo or whatever it is that we’re calling it these days. While not a lot is known about the PS4 successor, what we do know is this.

No Man’s Sky – Botched Game Launch or Botched Journalism?

No_Mans_Sky_Logo

The highly anticipated indie game No Man’s Sky is set to come to PS4 on August 9th in North America, August 10th in Europe, and on PC worldwide on August 12th. Though not all games offer early review units, a majority do and while No Man’s Sky would give press their turn at reviewing the game, copies wouldn’t arrive for them till today, one day prior to the games launch.

With some retailers breaking street date and offering the game for sale, sites like Kotaku and Polygon along side your currently relevant YouTube/Twitch streamer and quickly began to offer their take. Never mind you that especially for journalists, they had an embargo to think about because loyalty be damned for some extra clicks and after all, they were able to justify it by saying it’s not their fault select stores were selling the game.

The only problem other than a lack of clear integrity? The game they were playing was nowhere near the finished game that will be arriving tomorrow. Keep in mind there will be some extremely light spoilers about the game (in just the bullet section) in this post.

PlayStation Vita Finally Jailbroken

PS_Vita_Aladdin

After years on lockdown, PlayStation Vita has finally been jailbroken (you still remember the Vita, right?). Unlike the PSP which was cracked practically overnight, it’s taken five years for the powerful portable to crack and now that it has, say hello to classic gaming.

some clever folks at the hacking collective Team Molecule have come up with a solution that fully unlocks the Vita hardware for homebrew developers. Dubbed HENkaku, the jailbreak exploit not only works on the latest 3.60 Vita firmware, but also requires very little user intervention to execute. All you have to do is head over to the official HENkaku website on the Vita, tap on the install button, and then sit back and let the hack work its magic. The one drawback is that the jailbreak isn’t permanent, so if the Vita is fully powered off it needs to be reinstalled.

PS4 Sales Continue to Increase as Profits Double

Here is the absolutely extraordinary thing from the chart above – not only is the PS4 approaching its 4th year on sale, but that its sales continue to increase year-over-year and, in this case, quarter-over-quarter despite no price cut. For Q1 FY2016, PS4 sales totaled 3.5 million, up half a million from a year ago and up nearly 1 million from two years ago. Thanks to the sales increase, PlayStation’s operating income has increased to ¥44 billion (€382m, $425m) – representing a 126% rise year on year.

Beautiful New Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV Trailer Arrives

Kingsglaive_Final_Fantasy_XV_2

As someone who thoroughly enjoyed Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, I’ve gotten giddy every time there is something new to be seen in regards to Kingsglaive, the upcoming prequel movie to the long-delayed Final Fantasy XV.

Luckily for me, Sony has released a new trailer that for the first time includes all the official American voice actors, including Queen Regent of the Seven Kingdoms. Along with the new trailer, Square has also officially announced when the film will arrive on Blu-ray.
