PS4 to Receive Price Cut This Year

playstation cameraWe’ve just gotten our hands on some juicy information directly from within Sony which outlines the massive changes that have come to PlayStation since 2014 and where Sony hopes to take the brand. Despite the PS4 being well ahead of the Xbox One, Sony isn’t planning on slowing down and instead has highlighted four ways the company plans to accelerate PS4 sales in the next year, including the arrival of Morpheus. Those details after the jump.

Sony Debuts “The World’s Most Powerful Console” PS4 Commercial

PS4_Commercial

In Europe, Sony is running a new PlayStation 4 commercial that’s all about 3rd party games (with one first party game) and the power of the PS4. In the new ad, Sony highlights Batman: Arkham KnightBloodborne, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt while touting the power of the PS4. It’s unclear if Sony will run a similar version of this ad in the US. Personally, when compared to previous ads, I think this one feels a bit flat and like a filler. It’s as if they needed something new on the airwaves to highlight said games but didn’t want to spend too much time on it.

The new PS4 commercial can be found after the jump.

Going Forward, ‘Don’t Expect’ Sony to Do Much with PS3

Fergal_Gara

The PlayStation 4 has been doing gangbusters. Just ask any gamer or, moreso, any executive at Sony, and they’ll continue to express their disbelief that the system has been doubling the numbers of Xbox One. With all of PlayStation’s first party studios having shifted development over to PS4, what’s in store for PS3? Apparently not a lot, according to PlayStation UK Boss, Fergal Gara:

There is no doubt that at this stage, and with the success we have enjoyed globally, that our focus is on PS4

PlayStation Putting Its “Full Weight” Behind ‘No Man’s Sky’

No_Mans_Sky_SpaceThough lacking a release date, No Man’s Sky has been one of those titles that gamers can’t wait to see more of and hear more about. The indie title is being developed by a handful of developers, yet the ambition behind the project easily matches any AAA title we’ve seen. Still, PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara think that we shouldn’t think of this game as your run-of-the-mill small release, and that No Man’s Sky has

the potential to go beyond the usual expectations of an ‘indie’ title.

In fact so much so that Sony is planning on putting the full weight of PlayStation behind the game. His remarks after the jump.

Bungie Delays Destiny Update 1.2 for Technical Reasons

Destiny_House_Of_Wolves

House of Wolves, the upcoming DLC for Destiny, is just around the corner – but an update that would prep the game for it has just been delayed. Set to be released yesterday, Bungie has since delayed the release with a TBA timeline. Destiny update 1.2 was targeted at all Destiny players and not just for those getting House of Wolves and will bring with it, among other changes, the removal of Commendations, making it easier to acquire new weapons and gear.

But now, thanks a technical issue, we’ll have to wait longer. Bungie’s comments after the jump.

‘Powers’ Holds the Key to Original Programming on PlayStation

Powers

By now, we’re all familiar with the idea of a superhero show. Whether your favorite focuses on a singular character, like Smallville did, or follows a team based in a super world, like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we’re inspired to believe that our world really could be filled with superheroes – and we just don’t know it yet. What makes Powers stand out from the likes of these is not its content so much as its platform; as PlayStation’s first push into original programming, and  with the fact that it’s available exclusively on PlayStation Network, this is one unique show.

‘Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster’ on PS4 Looks Gorgeous

Final_Fantasy_X_X2_HD_Remaster_04

A great many out there, including yours truly, believe that Final Fantasy X was the last great RPG from Square Enix. Excluding games like Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV which are some of the best and more unique MMORPGs out there, Final Fantasy XII showed a change in pace for the once dominant franchise and the name Final Fantasy XIII and the two sequels it spawned make fans of the franchise nauseous.

With Final Fantasy XV still far off, fans of old school RPGs will have the chance to relive the glory days with Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on PS4 and things are simply looking gorgeous. Sure, it’s not inFamous or Destiny, but for a game that was designed on PS2, things couldn’t look better. After the jump, some screenshots to whet your appetite await you.

PlayStation Now Subscriptions Heads to PS3

PlayStation_Now_May

For those unfamiliar, PlayStation Now is the game streaming service from Sony which allows you to play a large library of PS3 games. The service is already available in a wide variety of devices and comes in two flavors. You can either rent specific titles for different time periods with different price tiers to go along with it or you can opt for unlimited streaming for one price. Think Netflix for gaming – though it’s worth pointing out that selecting a la carte gives you more variety than the subscription. Till now, the subscription tier, which has a robust library of over 100 titles, had only been available to PS4 owners, but all that changes later this month.

PlayStation Revenue Up 33%, Biggest Revenue Driver for Sony

With the revelation that Sony expects to sell 16 million PS4s in 2015 comes some even rosier news about Sony’s entire gaming division. Revenue for PlayStation, which include predecessor models as well as network services like PSN, was up 33% year on year. In fact, PlayStation has become the biggest revenue driver for Sony, though not necessarily the biggest profit driver. All in all, PlayStation revenue accounted for $11.5 billion dollars for FY2014. Some more good news for Sony after the jump.

Sony Expects to Sell 16 Million PS4s in 2015

PS4_Fireworks

Revealed in their latest financial report, Sony is expecting to sell a staggering 16 million PS4 units in 2015. If successful, that will be up by 1.2 million units from 2014, when they sold 14.8 million units. During its nearly two-year run, Sony has routinely outsold the Xbox One, which has enjoyed a sale price that places the console $50 under the PS4 with usually two free games to go along with it. At last count, Microsoft had sold 12 million Xbox One units.

Watch ‘H-Hour: World’s Elite’ the ‘SOCOM’ Successor in Action

H_Hour_Worlds_Elite_Alpha

Many of us, including yours truly, grew up on SOCOM. The PS2, with its eventual network adaptor, would give many their first real and casual experience to online gaming. Since that time, many iterations of SOCOM have been released by Zipper Interactive, but eventually the studio would close. A few years later, key members of Zipper, including Creative Director David Sears, would form a new company, SOF Studios. With a fresh lease on life, the studio has been hard at work developing H-Hour: World’s Elite, a spiritual successor to SOCOM in many ways. As can be seen in two separate gameplay videos after the jump, not only does the world and maps resemble that of SOCOM, but so do the gameplay mechanics and character builds.
